The Aporia Agathon Project…and YOU!

Aporia AgathonYou may not have noticed, what with all the fuss about a certain movie premiere this holiday weekend but yesterday, Aporia Cross-Media Entertainment released a trailer for its upcoming game: The Aporia Agathon Project. In addition to the video, you can find a few interesting tidbits of information on their news page and Jason Chrest wrote in to us with some extra goodness:

Hey [SpaceBass] and everyone else,

I’m a huge fan of everything you guys do here and in the various other locations to help advance this genre, especially for all of the players. So I wanted to give you guys an inside scoop on some of the happenings over at Aporia Cross-Media Entertainment. We released a trailer today for our upcoming summer of 2008 release:

The project has the working name of the Aporia Agathon Project. Before you ask, I want to point out that no the game is not about a butterfly. The butterfly is an analogy for the how we feel Aporia CME has evolved over the past year. Alive in 2006 with Ny Takma, cacooned through 2007 building this game, and beautiful in 2008 with the launch of this game. I’ve been like a little schoolboy at times with my giddiness in regards to the project and I’m not alone when it comes to the staff impatiently awaiting the launch this summer.

This game is going to reach out to fans of various genres from world history, to sci-fi, to conspiracy, drama, and more. We’ve pointed out the unique interface, but I have to admit that much like Last Call Poker, we’re using an existing medium that just has not yet been used within the ARG/CF genre. We had a staff member who recently joined our team to be an actor / writer make this comment about the interface:

“Before becoming involved with this project–just as a player reading the news about the new ‘exciting new interface’ being developed–I thought they were just exaggerating. Now, seeing the full scope of the engine and the story that it is used to tell, I am excited to say that it is much more revolutionary that I had imagined.”

I understand that the majority of ARG players stay pretty well concerned with the amount of information leaked from behind a curtain, so I don’t want to give out too much detail that would effect how the players approach the game as a whole. I did want to point out that we are working on some software that will allow the players to download and share parcels of content amongst each other as needed.

As with the majority of ARGs, this will be a free game for the players. We’re taking various steps to try to promote this game to people who are not very familiar with ARGs as an effort to build the genre up. Each of the staff members we’ve gathered are players themselves and have a strong desire to ensure that what we release is of the best quality attainable for the budget.

With that I hope you all enjoy the Trailer, but most importantly that you enjoy the game.
